Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
